Google Search History
24 May 2010 - 00:28

As we are all aware, Google LOVES data mining and as such is really good at keeping track of our... well, our everything! Because I've a Google account, something I use quite often, I am able to look at some interesting things about my search history. Here are a few interesting things I've recently learned.

1) I make the most Google searches in January and the least in June. This is good because it shows that I occasionally do get off my lazy butt and do something, at least in the summer.

2) The majority of my searches take place between 3 and 8 PM. The least search take place between 2 and 4 AM. I'm not sure I want to know what those are... Oddly, there is a spike in searches at 9AM, which is odd as I'm not often up at that time and Googling things.

3) My number one query on Google is "google"... Apparently, I Google Google more often than anything else. I don't recall doing this very often if at all, but would Google lie to me? My number two is "%s". That's hard to explain, but I know that to be fairly accurate. It has to do with some poorly coded FireFox options.

4) The top site I use is Wikipedia, specifically the English version. I cannot argue with that because I Wiki things like crazy!! Despite what professors think, Wikipedia is a valid source of information. It just has to be used with great discretion and caution and as nothing more than a starting point for research on any given subject.

5) I search the most Tuesday's and the least on Saturday's. However, the number of searches across all days was pretty even as I've no specific activities which would cause more or less on a particular day of the week.

Of course, none of this is really of any use to anyone reading this, but I found it interesting and mildly entertaining, so I thought I would share. If you'd like, post your results as a comment or something. In case you don't know how to see such things, sign in to your Google account and click https://www.google.com/history/trends?hl=en.
