First Post From America
14 July 2009 - 20:42
So, it's been a while since my last post, two or three weeks actually. I would have to say the reason for not posting would be my very hectic and crazy homecoming. Until now, I really haven't even thought about blogging. However, now is the time to catch the internets up to speed as well as accidentally the whole thing.
Backtracking a bit, to when I was still in the beautiful Czech Republic, for those of you who do not know, in February, I found out that my parents would be getting a divorce. As far as that goes, both my parents, my sister and me, were all okay with this as it has been coming for a long time. So, that never has been a problem.
However, with something like this, many problems do arise, as one would expect. Because of all these problems, things are very different at home. That is why it is all so crazy. First, I was living in a nice country home when I left. Upon my return, I'm now in a nice apartment in the city with only my mother and sister. Certainly nothing wrong with this, but just very different.
Secondly, there are a few unsettled issues between Mom and Dad. The biggest being the selling of our old house. Sparing the details, it needs to be sold, but an attempt has not yet been made. Anyone need a house it the Kentucky countryside?? And finally, my dad is not the same person I once knew. This has been the biggest problem of everything.
Directly, between he and I, there are no problems yet. But, he has been causing a few with my sister and mother. That's where the real issues are. Because I haven't actually been here over the past months as this has all unfolded, I haven't experienced everything that has actually happened, but apparently its not a good thing.
Still, for me, everything is going pretty well, just everything is a bit crazy and certainly not as it was when I left. For now, the biggest other issue I have to deal with, which can be even more stressful at times, is finding a flat and a job at my new university, Northern Kentucky University (NKU), where I have been accepted. I don't know if I've mentioned that yet or not, but its now official.
So, I guess that sums up theses two weeks since arriving in the States. A lot of unpacking of boxes and sorting out a new life for my mother, while looking forward to starting my own in August. Also, to offset everything, I have made some really good friends at a local bar downtown. American beer just ain't so good and fulfilling, but there are a few which are acceptable. And last night, my very good buddy Jeff brought in some Staropramen (Yep, that beer from Prague) and even though it was three years past its "best by" date, it was still alright just a little not fresh.
