The Hunt
01 December 2009 - 20:34
Some time ago I was feeling a bit poetic. I was inspired to write this and it hasn't been seen before. There was a rough draft which I showed to one person, though it very different from this semi-final draft. Since then I haven't touched it, haven't re-read it and haven't revised it. Now, I want to post it and get some feedback just to see what people think. Lately, for some odd reason, I've felt the need to write, but I haven't been because I don't know what anybody thinks of my writing, not that it matters, but I would like to know for my own personal benefit.
So, if you have something useful to say, comments, criticism, or otherwise, please leave it in the comment section below (click "comments" if none are showing).
Thanks, RedHawk

The Hunt This day long waited, until the time became right Trouble I have sleeping, such a restless night Early in the morning, the sun will rise Long before it, I awake and open my eyes
I set off on my journey out in to the forest Prepared I am, the sun creeping from its lowest The trail is long and the way is high On only my instincts I shall rely
Taking with me just what I might need Only a few things for this special deed In my hands I hold my fathers tools And in my head a few simple rules
My destination is far, but not out of reach The constrains of civilization, first I must breach To a place beyond the horizon, where just before the sun The animals frolic and have all their fun
So enticing and pure, it is all so wonderful and magnificent There is no other place for my free spirit The gentle sound of wild winds rustling in the trees Or the playful banter of squirrels in the fallen leaves
Carefully I make my way down the worn path Acutely aware of all the senses my prey doth hath Listening so carefully to every sound Watching closely to see if I have been found
A pleasant sound of waters own troubles Relaxes and calms my mind as it bubbles I cross a creek which freely flows throughout the trees Where ever it chooses, where ever it does please
More steps to take, climbing ever higher Seeking out that which all men desire Becoming lost in the world that abounds This earth’s great beauty, it always astounds
As I wander the trail on which I stand The trees around begin to disband Bright and lively, the sun hits my eyes Such joy before me, a magnificent surprise
Stretching out as far as I can see A field of green, the perfect place for me Soaking up the warmth of the sunshine Life is just right and all is just fine
Time begins to stand perfectly still A soft flowing breeze is all I can feel I take my place where the field and forest collide Under a great tree, I sit quietly beside
Patiently I wait absorbing all the nature Taking everything in, as much as I can capture One with the heavens and earth I become Bliss I could never before fathom
At its highest point in the sky so bright The sun beats down filling the land with light All is so clear, my mind completely set free I am one within, myself connected to but me
Alas, in the distance, I hear a strange noise All the thrill and suspense almost annoys Could it be that which I truly seek? It is quite exciting and very mystique
Time slowly passes as I try to catch sight Of an imagine I could only dream of at night The sound grows louder as it draws near My blood is boiling as I begin to fear
Butterflies in my stomach begin to dance As I finally see my prey advance Slowly does the tension rise As I stare across into her eyes
Such beauty before me as I’ve never seen A wondrous luster, dark but pristine I think to myself could it finally be A gift from the angels, brought just for me
After so long of waiting and standing by Opportunity has come, my turn to try Patiently I wait for the right moment to come Taking much care, using my wisdom
In the very last second moment before she was gone I made my move, the hunt is on Flashes of light and thunderous sound In a split second I was the only being around
Quickly I tear off into the unknown Following the trail which she has flown The faintest signs left along the way Just a small glimpse of hope as I survey
Now time is most important Slow or fall behind I mustn’t Many steps I quickly take No matter any pain or ache
Tired and weary I fall to my knees To take a rest beneath the trees My heart it leaps from my chest For such thrill I cannot protest
The forest becomes so calm and still I begin to wonder if it is even real It could not be just a dream No matter how fictional it may seem
Racing through the trees I see The beast she turns to look at me One small step in my direction Slow and with much caution
We both are feeling the same fear Fighting for our own life so severe Yet somehow there is something more A different feeling one cannot ignore
Much like compassion or care But stronger, so much as to impair Something tender and a sweet Our own understanding as we meet
Closer and closer she comes Both our hearts beating like drums Just before me she holds her ground And in this stance we are bound
I can see that she is without alarm Because she knows that I mean her no harm However, as experience does teach She knows to stay just out of reach
Time passes though nothing changes Without moving we sit for ages Seeing her soul by staring into her eyes I can see that it isn’t me whom she does despise
The others who have came before Have created a very deep heart sore Now it is comfort that she does seek But hides it well beneath her mystique
Ever so slowly I extend my hand As the sun begins to set over the land To me she does come with wary movement A brief touch before she flees in that same moment
I am left entirely alone But I am not on my own Track her down again I shall, I declare For somewhere she is out there
