August 2009
World's Worst Blogger
15 August 2009 - 23:22
I dunno' what happened. Before, I'd blogged relatively often. At least, often enough. Now, it would seem that I can barely produce a blog but once, perhaps twice, in a month. June, was a rather busy month, at least in terms of traveling and limited computer access for most of the time. July, well... I just didn't give a crap then... about anything... Now August is here, and well on it's way, and I'm just now getting around to writing again.
Things are moving on, but not necessarily looking up, not quite yet. I have moved fully into my apartment and gotten settled. In fact, today is the one week anniversary. It has been, to say the very least, a slow and unproductive week. I can say that not a whole lot has been going on. This should come as no surprise, so I'm not worried about it, since I know no one here yet and am without employment. With the starting of school, a week from Monday, and hopefully landing a job soon, things ought to pick up a bit, right until that point where I will realize I'm super-busy all the time and haven't a moment to kick back and relax, as I have now.
Perhaps it is this reason, why I haven't been blogging much. I haven't done anything worth sharing, in so many words, just existing, waiting for things to take off. I can say there is a bit of worry in regards to having a job and taking "real" classes, after not doing anything strenuous, either academically or physically, in the past dozen months or so... Not a legitimate concern, but still I know it will suck to get rolling again. Though, all will be greatly appreciated in time once I get back into the swing of things.
I guess there is some very serious business I could be discussing. It should come as no surprise, but I am not at all satisfied with the beer here in America. I haven't found that "one beer" yet. For all the beer drinkers out there, you know what I'm talking about. That beer which every time you drink that first drink, you appreciate life, no matter what. I found such pleasures in beers in Europe, mainly Czech beers, but none yet here. I appreciate a good Guinness, extra stout specifically, but that beer doesn't fit the above statement, nor is it American.
So far, I would have to claim Budweiser Select to be the best I've found thus far, but it is by no means a great beer, only "good" or "acceptable", at best. I have tried a small assortment of beers since being home, but most happen to be important. Imagine that... I have had the (almost)pleasure of Czech beer since being home. A friend gloriously located Staropramen, from Prague. However, it was three years expired and tasted as such; skunked! Otherwise, only Pilsner's have been found, and not everywhere, but only in select locations.
The bottom line about the beer choices here, to my current discovery, are sticking to imports, when you can afford them, Guinness, when you're looking for that "kick", Budweiser Select or Killian's (that ain't bad either, though nothing great; affordable though, and what I am currently drinking), when you want to have something around in the fridge at all times, or Magic Hat, when you want something a little different and trust me it's different. Other than that, I cannot say much because I haven't been so daring to try many others, or weren't as satisfied. I tend to stick to what I know and like, which is why I usually bit the bullet and just buy the Guinness, because I can always trust in that.
I am open to any other suggestions that people may have because I am still trying to find a beer which I love and would put up there with Starobrno, Gambrinus, MASTER (probably my favorite beer, though about seven is my limit [9% alc., FYI]) or Kozel Cerny. Also, it should be noted that all beers, on average, here in America are served at the "maly" or "small" size, never "velky" or "big". I find that also very disappointing...

Transitions
04 August 2009 - 23:31
Wow! So far, the transition from Brno to "home" has been a B!tch and it ain't really getting any easier. I hate to sound like a whiny emo kid, but sadly that's just kinda' how it is at the moment. Most of the time its pretty good, although boring as hell, at least for the time be here in Owensboro.
Good news to report! On Saturday, I will be moving into my own place in Newport, Kentucky, four hours away from here. I'm hoping this will be a positive move for me both academically and mentally. As much as I love my mommy, it's definitely time to move away again, far far away. She, as well as my sister, mean nothing but the best (I would assume), but after living on my own for so long, it really is time to GTFO!
Finally, I will be able to "start anew" following my time in Brno. This month or so here doesn't really count for anything. I would call it something like an interim period, which I will be glad to bid good riddance. If you cannot already tell, I am quite looking forward to life on my own again, doing things my way and on my terms. Plus, and I never thought I'd say this, but I am really looking forward to working again in order to have some money and not to feel so lazy and worthless anymore, not that I am worthless, but I just haven't actually worked in a year and that probably isn't a good thing.
So until next time, probably from my own new apartment, ahoj!
